Christchurch Music Industry Fundraiser

Christchurch Music Industry Fundraiser

On Sunday 22 May, a benefit show will be held at the King's Arms with all proceeds going to help the Christchurch music scene.

It's called The Sugarloaf Shakedown. The acts playing will be The Bats, Lawrence Arabia, Street Chant, Drab Doo-Riffs, Dictaphone Blues and Princess Chelsea.

Between bands, Matthew Crawley, The Nudie Suits and The Hories will DJ their hearts out. Food will be available on the day from Ripe Deli, with profits also going to the cause. Doors open at 3pm, bands on the hour from 4pm.

Given recent events in Christchurch, this fine group have decided to collectively pool their talents in order to help their fellow musicians in the southern city.

Paul Kean of The Bats says "it's been amazing how the Christchurch music community have adapted to the loss of many of our city venues. Gigs kicked in virtually straight after the quake in improvised alternatives from bowling clubs to house parties."

All proceeds from The Sugarloaf Shakedown will go to encourage more of these kinds of ad hoc events as the city moves into winter with most of its venues still closed. Jeff Fulton, manager of CHART, fully supports the event. "Its been a tough time with the loss of so many music venues and this sort of support will go some way in assisting grassroots initiatives like Gapfiller and Good Vibrations to continue to stage shows for the city's musicians."

The event has received the kind support of the following organisations: Arch Hill Recordings, 95bFM, Cheese On Toast, Under The Radar, Ripe Deli, King's Arms, Phantom Billstickers, Chart and Rhythm Section Productions
