Shiverdown Shakes up the Waikato
21.06.10
[press release]
Soul, groove and positive vibes are set to hit the Waikato region when the Shiverdown Music Festival kicks off on October 23rd 2010 at Mystery Creek Events Centre. The Shiverdown Festival is a brand new dub, reggae and dance infused music event that is set to shake up the Waikato region. Shiverdown will shout drama and dazzle, with a mystical winter theme, extravagant light show, top of the range sound equipment and big screen visuals. The Shiverdown Music Festival will put the warmth of rhythm and bass in the place and will present the cream of the New Zealand music industry.
Shiverdown will feature some of the finest names in contemporary Aotearoa-New Zealand music: Wellington's reggae-dub-funk masters The Black Seeds; Waikato's roots reggae workaholics Katchafire: Auckland's reggae-soul purveyors dDub; the capital's veteran bass-bin terrorists Rhombus; Hamilton up-and-comers Knights of the Dub Table. Filling in the gaps when the bands shimmy from the stage will be the hosts of Hamilton's only regular dub, reggae and dancehall event, the Downtown Special Sound Crew (Cpt Nemo, DJ Atmopshere, Mikey B and Raiza), plus DJ Staylo.
Founder and events manager Bianca Angel, and her two co-organisers Reti Hedley and Ana Wilkinson are behind the Shiverdown Festival. The team, all in their early twenties, noticed a lack of live New Zealand music in the Waikato Region and this inspired them to get the Shiverdown Festival off the ground. Miss Angel says, Shiverdown will fill the early spring music festival void and will give punters a chance to enjoy a world class music festival in the Waikato region. This strictly R18 event will include licensed bar areas, food, and friendly security in an expansive, safe and fully-enclosed environment.
Bianca says, "For the last few years, the Waikato has had a drought of international-standard events presenting this style of Aotearoa-New Zealand music," Miss Angel says. "Hamiltonians have been constantly leaving our city to experience large-scale music events. So our team has decided a new music festival bursting with spark, gusto and charisma is exactly what our region needed. Shiverdown will give our community, and anyone who wants to join us, the chance to immerse themselves in the soulful tones of Aotearoa's finest musicians."
